Growing up, I was often laughed at due to my appearance., and I would often end up with nicknames like "shoehorn", "moon-face" and "banana". Bit by bit I became self conscious about my appearance. Furthermore, I often had problems chewing things due to malocclusion. An example being simple act of biting an apple is something I couldn't do. This is an obstacle that the average person would not be able to understand.
I was unable to feel comfortable whether it was with the appearance or the function. Thus, upon my family's encouragement and our trust in Dr. Hsieh, I made a huge decision to change my appearance to how I want to look at the age of 20!
Description of the surgery
In this case, the patient has an overgrown mandible leading to an underbite. This is accompanied with midface retrusion. From a medical perspective, the maxilla can be pushed forward with orthognathic surgery, and a double-jaw surgery to truncate the jaw. However, the patient has a relatively flat forehead, dented temples and wide cheekbones. If orthognathic surgery is performed to correct the lower midface, the the upper half would be disregarded. In that case the overall ratio of the face may not be ideal for the patient. Thus, for the aesthetic design of the entire face, Dr Hsieh's surgical plan involves these three locations:
- Orthognathic surgery: With 3D navigation and 3D printing technology an exclusive surgery plan is prepared. Customized for the more beautiful angles and lines.
- Foreheard augmentation: To create a full forehead and fill in the dented temples for natural and beautiful facial lines.
- Cheekbone surgery: Wide cheeks give off a fierce look, therefore zygoma reduction will result in rounded overall facial lines extending from the forehead.
