Occlusion management is the field dental professionals get involved with in their daily practice, however, the implication of the occlusal plane to facial aesthetics is seldom mentioned. This presentation will discuss the mechanism of occlusal plane alteration, indications and how the facial aesthetics will be greatly improved by rotation of maxillomandibular complex. Many clinical cases will be shown in this presentation as well.

Concepts about aesthetic facial bone surgery have evolved significantly in many ways in the past 10 years. These improvements include much shorter hospitalization, facial bone surgery in ambulatory surgical centers, combined facial bone surgery with all variety of facial aesthetic procedures, surgery-first orthognathic approach making overall surgical-orthodontic treatment period so much shorter, even orthognathic surgery alone without orthodontic treatment, and the impact facial bone surgery makes to the posterior airway dimension. All these important breakthroughs and concept shifts will be briefly presented and discussed in this session.
