2018-05-15 Contemporary Dental Clinic - Full Mouth Reconstruction and Interdisciplinary Collaborative Treatment Lecture Series - Contemporary Orthognathic Surgery and Treatment of Temporomandibular Disorders

In clinical practice, dentists or orthodontists face various cases of malocclusion, which are often combined with a high proportion of dentofacial deformity and temporomandibular disorders. What is different from the past is that orthodontic patients not only require neatly arranged and healthy teeth, but also pay more and more attention to the improvement of facial appearance, and they also require more quality and efficiency of treatment. In the traditional concept of temporomandibular joint treatment, patients or clinicians hope to treat joint symptoms by improving the occlusion relationship, but the results are often difficult to predict and achieve half the result with twice the effort. How should clinical dentists/orthodontists provide patients with complex and changeable temporomandibular joint symptoms or combined maxillofacial abnormalities with a more comprehensive and efficient treatment plan to achieve treatment results that take into account bite function, facial aesthetics, and joint health? This report starts from evidence-based medicine and uses case discussion to share the latest trends and clinical applications of surgical orthodontics and temporomandibular joint treatment.

The timing of orthognathic surgery and orthodontic intervention is a critical part of the treatment plan. This report will focus on sharing the application scope and treatment cases of treatment methods such as orthodontics-first approach, surgery-first or surgery-early approach in clinical experience, so as to provide patients with efficient treatment results.

In this era of globalization and information explosion, "time" is everyone's most precious asset, and it is also an important cost that orthodontists cannot ignore in clinical treatment. In clinical practice, orthodontists face various cases of malocclusion, which are often combined with a high proportion of dentofacial deformity. In addition, patients receiving orthodontic treatment not only require neatly arranged and healthy teeth, but also pay more and more attention to the improvement of facial appearance, and also require the quality and efficiency of treatment. This report will focus on how to make good use of surgical assistance in the dental and jaw correction treatment plan for "patients with malocclusion and maxillofacial abnormalities" to achieve twice the result with half the effort, satisfying and stable treatment results for both doctors and patients.

Aesthetic Application of Cranio-Maxillo-Facial Implants Facial implants has long been used to augment facial skeleton to enhance esthetics. It can be performed as a solitary procedure or it can be applied as complimentary procedure to orthognathic surgery or facial rejuvenative procedures. Traditionally, stocked facial implants were used coming with 2 or 3 various sizes. Over these years, the application of computer-aided design and rapid prototyping techniques is becoming relatively popular and demonstrating more advantages over traditional stocked implants. In this presentation, workflow of patient-specific-implant and its various application will be reported.
