This type of face is categorized by Dr. Hsieh as convex face with normal occlusion because the angle and occlusion of the teeth are correctly aligned (without deep bite present) however there were excessive forward and downward growths of the bones that caused a protruded mouth. This condition is generally combined with gummy smile and receding chin. Generally, there are two types of treatments for this condition, which involve removing or not removing teeth. When the teeth are removed that would give Dr. Hsieh more space to push back. In this case, the patient received upper and lower jaw orthognathic surgery while four teeth were removed (Surgery First-Orthodontic Later Surgery).
