Facial feminization surgery (FFS) aims to transform the following masculine facial bone features:
1. Sunken forehead, pronounced brow ridges and drooping eyebrows 2. Flaring cheekbones and sunken cheeks 3. Angular and sharp outline of jaw and the area between earlobes and jaw angles I believe most people do not understand the desire "to be able to see in the mirror the true oneself". I went through cosmetic surgery not because I want to be like any super star, or to have bigger eyes or smaller face. What I want is to look like who I really am. I realize the differences between boys or men and girls or women since I was little and I am aware of the social identity and expectation of each gender. I have long struggled with the contradiction between my physical appearance and self-identity. It was like one person playing two roles but none represented the real character. I was filled with loneliness and frustration. I felt like I didn't really know myself and I had no idea how. As the internet grows fast, more information about facial feminization surgery (FFS) can be found on the internet, which however is still rarely accessible in Taiwan, not to mention people sharing their own FFS experience. I was lucky to visit Dr. Hsieh's website on which shares FFS recovery videos so I knew I was not alone. I hope by sharing my experience, more people could get to know that mature FFS techniques has been well developed in Taiwan. During the consultation, Dr. Hsieh explained me the characteristic facial features of each gender (e.g. cheekbones, gonial angles and jaw line) and especially mentioned the difference of the forehead as women tend to have round and voluminous forehead which particularly makes them looks feminine. Dr. Hsieh performed tailor-made surgical procedures to reshape my sunken forehead and slightly protruding brow ridges combined with rhinoplasty made by Dr. Yi sheng Gao. Now it is about three month from the surgery. I can see the improvement little by little everyday and I am very satisfied with the outcome. I feel like I get to know myself again and I am happy to move forward to a new period of life.
