Cheekbones Osteotomy
簡介

Base on racial differences, the western facial shape and oriental facial shape have dissimilarities. The western facial shape is characterized by this narrow and lengthy profile while the oriental facial shape is characterized by this wide and short profile. However, there are pre-existed contemporary aesthetic values that conform with one another where the facial bone structures (cheekbones, upper and lower jaws) should look their best when narrowed, and could be considered more delicately or elegantly shaped if they are more narrowed. There may be several reasons for this that when the human societies are highly evolved, the life style and food choices are becoming more refined. The thicker bone structures suitable for our predecessors lose its appeal and genetic values. Therefore a highly evolved facial profile should have delicate bone structure with relatively proportioned cheekbones. Moreover, the mass media often passes on the same aesthetic values with the images of lengthy body, palm sized face, and oval facial shape being aesthetically attractive. This phenomenon of the aesthetic unifying conformity may also be influenced by a group of surgeons who

Cheekbone Fracture and Cheekbone Contouring Surgery

Cheekbone contouring surgery can be considered as an artificial cheekbone fracture where the bones is cut then secured to a narrower position (for westerners with narrower profiles the position can be secured on a broader placement). Differing from the actual accidental fracture to the cheekbones where it travels through the eye sockets, the artificial cheekbone fracture goes along the edges of the eye sockets and avoids all important connective tissues surrounding the eyes.

A. Incisions and Path
Dr. Hsieh recommends the intraoral incision combines with ear front incision (hidden in the hairlines). The incisions will be approximately 0.8cm in length. The intraoral incision enables the surgeon to create cut to the zygomatic body outside the eye sockets then secured the position. The ear front incision enables the surgeon to create a cut to the zygomatic arch then secured the position. There is surgical approach that utilized without the ear front incision which has reduced scar on the skin. However, it can cause mal-union or non-union of zygomatic bone, or that the zygomatic arch has not reached the supposed narrowing effect.
B. Secure the Position:Using mini bone nails and plates

D. Anesthesia Approach: General Anesthesia  E. No hospital stays.;
F. No catheter attached.
G. Post-surgery Dietary Requirements: Fluid foods for approximately 3 – 5 days then soft textured foods for approximately 1 – 2 weeks.
