Orthognathic surgery was once centered mainly on correcting bite problems, but clinical expectations have expanded. Patients today pay much closer attention to facial proportions, soft-tissue changes, and airway function, which is why the concept of “Orthofacial Surgery” has gained increasing attention. Orthognathic surgery is no longer just about moving bones Modern surgical planning requires an understanding of: • How the jaws and teeth will move • How the lips and facial contours will respond • How the airway may improve or change after surgery In his presentation, Dr. Chiang emphasized both functional and aesthetic perspectives, explaining how integrating soft- and hard-tissue analysis—and predicting postoperative changes—helps achieve stable, natural, and personalized results.
